Cardboard is made from renewable and recyclable material and it is very easy to produce.
Recycling cardboard saves us a lot of energy, oil and water. Overall, recycling cardboard has a positive impact on the environment. It preserves natural resources, helps us reduce our carbon footprint, saves landfill space and promotes the use of renewable materials. Because cardboard is made of paper, to be created it requires cutting down of trees. Recycling therefore helps combat the deforestation issues we are faced with.
Cardboard Recycling Steps Farnborough
Cardboard recycling involves reprocessing and reusing thick sheets or multilayered papers known as cardboard that have been discarded. Recycling of cardboard is as follows:
The collection process starts at your business premises. We will come and collect your waste at your premises where it will be taken to a recycling plant to begin the recycling process. Different cardboard materials should be separated according to what type of materials they were used for. For example, cardboard that has been waxed or coated, as well as cardboard that has been used for the packaging of food must be kept separate from uncontaminated cardboard.
Sorting and Pulping
At the recycling centre, the waste will be sorted according to the cardboard grades and types. For example, corrugated cardboard will be mixed with other corrugated cardboard while paperboard goes to the other paperboards. After the sorting, it will be added with water and chemicals to create slurry. This process is called pulping. The slurry is the mixture of wet recycled paper that new paper or cardboard will be created from.
De-inking and Filtering
De-inking is the process of cardboard ink removal from the slurry to further purify. In this process, foreign material such as plastic, staples and other material found in cardboard is removed.
They’re separated from the pulp by using a centrifuge which spins the mixture until the foreign material bubbles on top or is pushed under. The inks are also washed off so that the pulp is completely free of anything that is not paper fibres.
This is the stage where the pulp is dried and prepared for re-use. The pulp is placed on a conveyor belt where, after drying, it will move to various processes to make new cardboard material. During these further processes, excess water will be removed and at the end we will have what is known as paper sheets or liner boards to make new cardboard material.
